MSCO: Stuart man slashes store clerk, tells deputies "I don't like Arabs"

Jeremiah Emmanuel Hendrix is accused of a hate crime when he slashed a store employee at a Family Dollar Store Wednesday night after harassing employees because of their ethnicity.

Martin County Deputies say they arrested a man who slashed a store clerk because he “didn’t like Arabs.”

Jeremiah Emmanuel Hendrix is accused of a hate crime when he slashed a store employee at a Family Dollar Store Wednesday night after harassing employees because of their ethnicity.

Witnesses told MCSO that Hendrix was yelling at two employees. According to the arrest report, when he grabbed one of the female employees, another employee stepped in. That is when deputies say Hendrix slashed the victim on the arm, and fled on foot. The victim was taken to Martin County Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries sustained in the attack.

Deputies set up a perimeter and located Hendrix in a wooded area about 4 blocks away.

He was positively identified by the victim according to the arrest affadavit. When questioned by deputies say Hendrix said “there’s no reason other than they are (expletive) Arabs, I don’t like Arabs.”

Hendrix is being charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon in a hate crime. He is currently being held in Martin County Jail on a $40,000 bond.
