Stuart dermatologist dies in windsurfing crash
STUART, Fla. (CBS12) —
A winder-surfer and a boat collided in Martin County on Friday afternoon. The 68-year-old Dr. Thomas Connelly was severely injured on Friday and later died from his injuries. The collision happened about half a mile north of the Stuart causeway.
Dr. Connelly was a pillar in the Stuart Community. According to his office’s website, he had treated over 80,000 cases of skin cancer. Dr. Connelly had been practicing skin cancer surgery in the Stuart area since 1985.
The Florida Wildlife Commission says on Friday afternoon Doctor Connelly was windsurfing, heading south, when he collided with a 21-foot center console boat. The FWC report went on to say boat’s driver, a 50-year-old man from South Carolina, gave Connelly C-P-R while returning to dock. Dr. Connelly was taken to Martin Memorial North Hospital, but did not survive his injuries. FWC Officials say alcohol was not a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
