Stoneman Douglas hero shot while saving others: 'I had to do it or they would get hurt'
A Stoneman Douglas hero is in a medically induced coma after his recovery took a turn for the worse.
A gunman shot Anthony Borges five times as he tried to save his classmates.
“I said kid I got to ask you man cause I’m really curious here what possessed you to do that? He looked at me like what do you mean what possessed me? I had to do it or they would get hurt,” said Alex Arreaza.
While he’s been recovering in the hospital the past three weeks his family’s attorney Alex Arreaza said Borges had to have an emergency surgery Wednesday.
“The body’s taking a beating from all the medication and all the operations and everything,” said Arreaza.
Borges is back in the intensive care unit Thursday in a medically induced coma after the surgery for an ulcer in his intestines.
Arreaza said he’s expected to recover and come out of the coma in a few days.
Mounting medical bills are one reason the Borges family filed their intent to sue Broward County Public Schools and the Broward County Sheriff’s Office this week, among others.
