Royal Caribbean cruise ship bringing Puerto Rico evacuees to South Florida
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (CBS12) —
Royal Caribbean officials say they will cancel the Adventure of the Seas' cruise to help those devastated in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands by Hurricane Maria.
Officials say the ship will be used for evacuations and humanitarian efforts.
The ship will arrive Wednesday and will operate humanitarian calls in San Juan, St. Thomas and St. Croix. The purpose will be to aid in the evacuation and donate much needed supplies to each location.
The ship will bring evacuees to Fort Lauderdale before returning to San Juan on Oct. 6 to prepare for the Oct. 7 cruise, officials say.
The company issued the following statement:
As the recovery effort remains fluid and each island is working diligently to get back to normal operations, we will continue to communicate any port changes to our guests.
