Police: Deputy shoots woman before taking his own life; names being withheld
BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (CBS 12) —
Boynton Beach Police Department said there is no timeline when it will release the name of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputy involved in a Thursday morning attempted murder-suicide shooting.
“During the course of our investigation into today’s shooting, information presented itself that requires further examination by detectives,” Boynton Beach Police Department spokeswoman Stephanie Slater said in an email. “We anticipate releasing the names of the parties involved upon conclusion of that inquiry.”
Sources have revealed the name of the deputy to CBS12, but we are not publishing the name until it is confirmed by Boynton Beach Police Department and all relatives have been notified.
Officers were called to the Inlet Harbor Club, located at 2424 North Federal Highway in Boynton Beach, early Thursday morning.
Residents of the complex reported hearing three gunshots in the parking lot area around 8 a.m.
Investigators confirmed they believe the sheriff’s deputy shot a woman before using the gun to take his own life.
As of Thursday night, the unnamed woman remains in critical condition at Delray Beach Medical Center.
Court records show the deputy and unidentified woman knew each other.
CBS12 has made multiple requests for comment from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, but no comment or interview with Sheriff Ric Bradshaw have been provided.
Sources tell CBS12 the deputy involved has been an employee of PBSO for “quite some time.”
