The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office identified the two people involved in the deputy-involved shooting on I-95.

Hugo Steven Selva, 22, is the murder suspect. Investigators said he shot and killed 26-year-old Nicole M. Novak at a store in Lake Worth, prior to the crash and shooting on I-95.

Deputies shot and killed Selva after he drove the wrong way on the highway and crashed into several other cars on the interstate at Lantana Road.

The confrontation is captured on a cell phone.

Investigators said an FHP trooper initially used a Taser on Selva to subdue him, but it had no effect. The sheriff's office said the deputy feared for his life and, based on the suspect's mannerisms, shot Selva.

The FDLE is handling the deputy-involved shooting. The sheriff's office is investigating Novak's murder in Lake Worth.

The deputy who shot Selva is on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure following the use of force. He's been identified as Deputy Connor Haugh. The sheriff's office says he worked as a veteran law enforcement officer at another agency before joining PBSO in April 2016. Haugh is assigned to District 14 in Lake Worth.

Novak, from Merritt Island, spent nearly four years in a Florida prison for grand theft, burglary, cocaine possession and possession of a controlled substance in 2011, according to records from the Department of Corrections.

Court records from Palm Beach County show Selva's grandmother filed a petition for injunction for protection against domestic violence in 2016. Marilyn Selva, his grandmother, said he threatened her with a butcher knife in January of 2016. "I'm in fear for my life as I am 77 years old," she wrote in the petition. Selva also wrote her grandson had a drug problem, his girlfriend was on parole and that she didn't like them coming to her home. "Nicole and Hugo are draining me physically, emotionally and financially. He gets up close to my face and shouts at me, calls me Satan B---h."
