Miami-Dade officer shot, one dead in shooting incident
MIAMI, Fla. (CBS12) —
The Miami-Dade Police Department has released the name of the man who was killed engaging an officer in a shootout.
MDPD say David Facen, 54, was killed in a shooting incident with an officer.
According to police, Facen was approached by the officer while investigating a theft. Police say Facen pulled out a firearm and shot the officer multiple time. As the officer returned fire, he struck the subject says a release.
Facen was pronounced dead on the scene.
The officer, Manuel Gonzalez, 31, is expected to recover. The officer has been with the MDPD for 6 years and 9 moths.
Miami-Dade Police Department confirmed that an officer-involved shooting took place Wednesday that left one person dead and the officer wounded.
The shooting took place in the area of 79 street and NW 32 avenue, and the officer had to be rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.
Miami-Dade Police Director Juan Perez asked for prayers on social media.
“We ask for support and prayers from the community,” Perez wrote.
The department said there was no threat to the community following the incident and that the Florida Department of Lase Enforcement would investigate the shooting, per policy.
The MDPD later announced that the officer had been shot multiple times and was in stable condition.
