Local schools working harder to prevent the flu from spreading
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (CBS12) —
One local school is going above and beyond to keep their students healthy this flu season.
St. Mark's Episcopal School in Palm Beach Gardens sent out a letter to parents, informing them that because of the uptick in illness among middle school students, teachers are now encouraged to send any student with cold or flu symptoms home. They are also requesting that all sick students stay at home until they have been symptom and fever free for at least 24 hours.
CBS12 asked Jeffrey Collins, the chief medical officer at MD Now Urgent Care, if the extra precautions within schools will actually make a difference. He said the only real way to prevent spreading the flu is to stay home.
