A woman serving more than a year in prison for grand theft, may see more time behind bars.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office arrested Nicole Palmer, 26, after she escaped from a Woman's Work Release Center on Fairgrounds Road. She escaped in March.

The Florida Department of Corrections said she surrendered to authorities at the Broward Sheriff's Office on May 1. Deputies booked her on an escape charge Wednesday afternoon.

According to the state, Palmer took a bus to Lake Worth for a job interview and never returned.

The Department of Corrections did say its work release programs "teach inmates valuable skills and provide job placement, which is critical to keeping offenders from returning to prison and reducing victimization in Florida’s communities. This employment also allows inmates the opportunity to pay restitution, courts costs and save money prior to their release." The privilege is for those with minimal time left on their sentence, are minimal or community custody inmates, and who have a history of good behavior while behind bars.
