Hurricane Season Begins

June 1 marks the start of the Atlantic Hurricane Season and will run through Nov. 30.

June 1 marks the start of the Atlantic Hurricane Season and will run through Nov. 30. This year, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is calling for an above average season.

Early in the season, most storms are expected to form mainly in the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea, with the location spreading out into the Atlantic as we move to November. The peek of the season is right around Sept. 10 and 11.

For the next six months, the StormTrac Weather team will be keeping a close eye on the tropics and warning you as storms form.

We have already had one named storm earlier this year, the next name on the list will be Bret.

As we begin the season, it is important that everyone has a disaster kit and the supplies needed in the event a hurricane strikes.

This weekend is the 2017 Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday, which runs from June 2 to 4. This means that qualifying items related to disaster preparedness are exempt from sales tax. Find the full list of items here.
