Hurricane Gert churns north, another disturbance tracks west

Hurricane Gert's track northward.

There is a great deal to keep track of in the tropics now that the hurricane season has shifted to the historically "busy period."

Gert is now the second hurricane of the season with current winds at 75mph. The storm is several hundred miles off of our coast and is no threat to south Florida, it will continue to move northeast and head out to sea.

We are also watching two other areas out in the Atlantic. One that is located several hundred miles south west of the Cabo Verde Islands. It has a 60% chance of formation through the next 5 days. The second area will move off the coast of Africa in the next two days and right now has a 20% chance of formation. Both of these systems are moving west at around 15 mph. There is still time to watch both of these systems.
