Hurricane Gert and 3 other disturbances stir tropics

Forecast path of tropical disturbances.

It is a busy time in the tropics right now.

Hurricane Gert is a strong category 1 storm with 90mph winds. It is a few hundred miles off the coast of North Carolina and poses no threat to the US.

There are three other waves worth watching as well. Invest 91L has a 40% chance of development through the next 5 days and is moving west. The forecast models take the path of this across the southern Caribbean and into Central America.

Not too far behind that is Invest 92L, with a 40% chance of development through the next 5 days. The computer models show this one potentially moving northwest and entering the Caribbean next week.

There is a third wave moving off the coast of Africa with only a 30% chance of development.

It is still way too early to make any call on any of these storms, but we will continue to monitor over the next several days.
