Video shows pack of dogs attack sleeping homeless man

Homeless man attacked by pit bulls.

A homeless man is in intensive care at St. Mary's Medical Center after being attacked by three pit bulls.

The attack happened near the Yamaha dealership on Military Trail just north of Belvedere Road around 3:30 a.m.

The horrific event was captured on surveillance video, obtained by CBS12. It's too graphic to share in its entirety.

You can see three pit bulls roaming the parking lot and seconds later-- they head toward the front of the building.

What you can't see is the victim sound asleep but watch as the dogs inch closer.

For the next five minutes, the dogs maul this helpless man biting him on his legs and arms, ripping off all of his clothing and tearing him apart.

The dogs run off when a deputy arrives. Moments later the dogs return and approach the deputy. One of the dogs is reportedly shot dead. Another was shot in the face but still able to run off with a third, uninjured dog. They ended up back home more than half a mile away.

Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control says the dogs broke free through a small hole in the fence at a house. We knocked but no one answered the door. "We were approached by the owner of the dogs who asked if we had her third dog," Captain Dave Walesky said.

Animal Care and Control tells CBS 12 the owner surrendered the two other dogs and both were euthanized a short time ago.

The dogs' owner is facing $1,000 in fines.
