Grinch stealing, damaging Christmas lights in Martin County
MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) —
A reported Grinch is snuffing out the holiday cheer in Martin County by damaging Christmas lights at homes and community entrances, the Martin County Sheriff's Office said.
Within the span of a few days, deputies responded to four separate incidents involving the theft or vandalism of Christmas lights.
Someone unplugged and stole a lawn laser display light from a home on 169th Avenue in Indiantown, according to the sheriff's office. Two more laser light displays were stolen the next day from another home on Southwest Three Wood Way.
In the Oak Ridge community in Palm City, someone cut the power cords to Christmas lights on the community's exit and entrance gates, the sheriff's office said. While deputies were taking in that report, two other residents said their lights were damaged the same way.
There was also a report of Christmas decorations being vandalized in Pinecrest Lakes in Jensen Beach, prompting residents to ask for extra patrols.
It's not clear whether the incidents are related.
Anyone who sees or hears anything suspicious is asked to call the sheriff's office at 772-220-7000.
