Funeral services are underway for two deputies from the Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office, killed in an ambush earlier this week.

A public viewing took place earlier Tuesday morning for Sgt. Noel Ramirez and Deputy Sheriff Taylor Lindsey. The funeral service at Bell Middle/High School is now underway.

The two heroes will be buried at Bronson Cemetery in Bronson later this afternoon.

Investigators say a man opened fire on the two deputies last Thursday as they sat down to eat at the Ace China Restaurant in Trenton. They were on duty and in uniform.

The sheriff's office said the gunman, 59-year-old John Hubert Highnote of Bell, took his own life a short time later.

Ramirez, 29, is survived by his wife and two young children. He's been in law enforcement for more than seven years, with stops at the Williston Police Department and Levy County Sheriff's Office.

Lindsey, 25, joined the Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office in 2013.

The deputies were remembered at a vigil Saturday night.
