Fort Pierce teen recovering after being shot in drive-by
FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) —
A 16 year old is recovering at Lawnwood Medical Center, after being shot twice while walking along North 29th Street and Avenue K in Fort Pierc.
Police say the teen was shot in the shoulder and hip, after a black sedan slowly drove by and opened fire, just after 10 o'clock Wednesday night. His friend was not injured.
People who live nearby, tell CBS12, 15-20 shots were fired. The scene is just a few blocks away from Chester Moore Elementary school.
Police say they are not sure if the teen was the intended target.
Arlene Scott lives just down the street from where the shooting happened. She says she has seen the many changes along North 29th Street in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Fort Pierce. However, hearing about the shooting is surprising.
"I'm pleased to say the community had really progressed in my opinion" said Scott. "When I woke up this morning and heard about it on the news, I was really taken back."
Police say no motive for the shooting has been given and no witnesses have stepped forward.
The teen is expected to make a full recovery.
