Drug court date for moms found overdosing with babies in car

Boynton Beach Police say they found the women unresponsive in their car, in a parking lot along Woolbright Road. The women had their 1- and 2- month old babies with them.

Police found them passed out in a car, with their babies in the back seat.

On Thursday, the mothers appeared before a judge in Palm Beach County Drug Court.

27-year old Kristen O'Connor of Coral Springs, and 28-year old June Schweinhart of Greenacres, both face child neglect charges.

Boynton Beach Police say they found the women unresponsive in their car, in a parking lot along Woolbright Road. The women had their 1- and 2- month old babies with them.

The police body cam video, obtained by CBS12, shows officers tending to the crying infants.

In the video, police are also heard talking about using Narcan, the overdose reversal drug.

At the drug court hearing, O'Connor and Schweinhart told the judge they had used heroin before passing out.

Judge Caroline Shepherd said O'Connor, because she lives in Broward County, may not qualify for drug court here.

Schweinhart told the judge she is trying to get back into treatment. There's also apparently a question whether she qualifies for drug court.

"You're not in drug court yet" Judge Shepherd told Schweinhart. "I don't know if you will be. You clearly need it."

Police say the women became friends at the same drug treatment center, hitting it off with the same due dates.

Schweinhart and O'Connor both declined comment as they left court.

Both were given new court dates next week.

The Department of Children and Families is involved, and the babies are now with family members.
