Defenders for Nikolas Cruz withdraw not guilty plea to ‘stand mute’
PARKLAND, Fla. (CBS 12) —
The defense for the Parkland school shooter Nikolas Cruz withdrew a previously filed not guilty plea and instead indicated that Cruz plans to Stand Mute.
According to our news partners at the Sun Sentinel, the legal strategy of standing mute is rarely employed and has the same effect as a not guilty plea. The newspaper says the judge will most likely enter a not guilty plea on behalf of the defendant when he is arraigned.
