Boynton Beach police officer arrested on domestic battery charge

A Boynton Beach Police officer is on paid administrative leave following an arrest for domestic battery.

A south Florida police officer found himself on the other side of the law this week.

According to an arrest affidavit from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, Boynton Beach Police Officer Vinicius Melo was arrested Wednesday for domestic battery.

The report says deputies were called to Melo's home Tuesday night after a 911 hangup. A woman spoke to deputies and said that she and Melo got into a fight, but he had left their home.

The woman had a cut on her left cheek. She told deputies Melo was drunk and threw a remote control at her.

The report says that the woman suffered injuries causing her eye to swell.

The investigation was handed over to the state attorney's office.

Melo has bonded out of jail. Public records show that as part of the bond agreement, Melo is not to have contact with the victim, alcohol, and weapons.

Melo will appear in court June 12.
