Officials are investigating the death of former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez.

His lawyers and family members are now saying that this is uncharacteristic behavior of Hernandez and are vowing to find answers.

Around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, prison officials found Hernandez hanging from a bed sheet attached to his cell window. He reportedly used several items to jam the door to keep prison authorities out of his cell.

But according to his attorney Jose Baez, this happened at what is considered one of the most high-tech maximum security prisons in the country, Souza Baranowski Correctional Center.

This news comes just days after Hernandez was acquitted from a double-murder case.

Baez released a statement saying, "Aaron was looking forward to an opportunity for a second chance to prove his innocence."

The former University of Florida tight-end racked up and extensive criminal career.

That includes a brief stint in South Florida, where Hernandez was accused of shooting his friend Alexander Bradley in a parking lot just outside the city limits of Riviera Beach back in 2013.

The Baez Law Firm now vows to conduct their own investigation.
