Lowe's donates new sign to Hoffman's after Winter Wonderland theft

GREENACRES, Fl. (CBS12)-- There's a happy ending to a story we covered earlier this week. Lowe's donated a new “JOY" sign to Hoffman’s Chocolates free of charge after their original Winter Wonderland display was stolen.

PBSO is still investigating the incident. Hoffman's Chocolates tells CBS12 that they have now hired extra security to watch the grounds.

"We are just in disbelief we couldn't believe somebody would do that," said Randall Vitale of Hoffman's.

Surveillance video shows at least one man cutting away the cords, then stacking the letters together and driving away in a pickup truck with the holiday sign.

The giant sign is 6 feet high and 15 feet long. It's worth about $1,400 and is the center-piece to the 26th Annual Winter Wonderland light display which opens on Saturday.

"We are turning it into a positive you know for us they can come and steal Joy from our front lawn, but we're not gonna let them steal joy from our holiday opening," said Vitale.
