Caught on Camera: Homeowners taking matters into their own hands

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. -- Caught on tape trying to break into a Delray Beach home. Crystal clear surveillance video shows two men knocking on the door on a Swinton Avenue home. When the homeowners didn't answer - the two tried to throw a brick through the glass doors. Thankfully - it was high-impact hurricane glass so it didn't break.

Police say the number of homeowners installing surveillance systems like that is on the rise.

Sylvia Zurita: This is a pinhole camera here.

It's a great way to catch criminals in the act, installing surveillance cameras inside and outside your home.

Sylvia Zurita: There's more people coming to the store asking how much it cost. How many cameras they can have, how they system works.

At the Spy Store on Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach, Sylvia Zurita says more people are interested in using cameras to protect their home.

Sylvia Zurita: We have clients with vacation homes. They come and go and want to leave a surveillance system here so they can watch system from another part of the world.

Just last week Homeowner David Rosenbom caught two would be burglars trying to break into his Delray Beach home. With eight surveillance cameras inside and outside, crystal clear images of the suspects were captured on video.

David Rosenbom: I'm glad I have a system a video surveillance, the alarm we have a good neighbor its working great.

The folks at the Spy Store say more homeowners are installing surveillance cameras because the picture is better, technology is better, and also they say because knowledge is power. Police say home surveillance cameras are a way for homeowners to become more proactive.

Nicole Guerreiro/Delray Beach Police Department: It definitely is another way to help police find who is committing these crimes and it's a great way for us to work together with the community.

Home surveillance systems range in price from $400 to about $1,200 and many are easy to install without the help of a technician.Caught on Camera: Homeowners taking matters into their own hands
