Some Boynton residents still fearful after last month's double slaying

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. -- Marchers will take to the streets in Boynton Beach Saturday morning. The event is dubbed "Boynton United to Bury the Violence."

Some residents say there is still plenty of fear in the neighborhood where last month's double slaying of two women happened. The women were killed in a house on NE 2nd Court in Boynton Beach.

"It was bang, bang, bang  bang!  Real quick," said David Lopez, neighbor.

David Lopez remembers waking up to the sound of gunshots and bullets flying the night of March 17.

"It was just a crazy night for the whole neighborhood," said Lopez.

The shooting spree on NE 2nd Court killed two women, Daphne Clemons and her sister, Janice Rahming. They were gunned down in the living room of Clemons' house.

"It brings tears to my eyes when I think about what happened, you know, because they didn't deserve to die like that. They didn't deserve that," said Jarutha Fields.

"I hope they really catch who does it, you know what I mean?" said Normalyn Gayle, neighbor.

Now more than a month later, there's a makeshift shrine in front of the house and a bullet hole is still visible in one of the windows.
Down the street, and around the corner, signs have popped up, urging people to turn out for a march and rally Saturday to denounce violence.

"I'll tell you, it's real solemn around here. Very quiet and a lot people just really afraid," said Fields.

This week, there was a possible new development in the case. Deputies arrested 17-year-old Jimmy Boo Boo Clemons Jr. for a murder that happened March 16. That's just one day before his mother Daphne Clemons and her sister were killed on March 17. Some are speculating they were killed in retaliation for the murder that Jimmy is now charged with.

"Yeah, that's what a lot of people are  saying. It was retaliation for all the stuff that's going around," said Lopez.

Police have not made that connection officially, but some neighbors feel it seems to make sense.

"It's still kind of frightening around here to be out at night," said Fields.

Fields hopes the march Saturday will accomplish something good.

"I hope it will make the neighborhood bond more together, be more trusting towards one another."

We spoke to Jimmy Clemons father tonight. He did not want to go on camera. But told us his son is innocent, and he says he doesn't know if the two women were murdered in retaliation for something his son allegedly did. He says police know who killed the two women, but don't have enough evidence yet to make an arrest.
