STUART, Fl. (CBS12)-- Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.

Walter Gwinn holds the top individual fundraising award and his company Seniors Helping Seniors Jupiter & Martin County has raised over six thousand dollars so far for the Alzheimer's Association. His mission is near and dear to his heart.

"I got involved after caring for my father who passed away in 2011. He had Alzheimer's disease."

Walter & his wife feel blessed to help care for those who need it most on a daily basis.

"I literally see it every day, family members and people confused not knowing where to go for help. That's why I do it."

The Alzheimer's Association wants to let patients and caretakers know they are not alone. There are so many resources and support groups available to help. This is why the Alzheimer's walk is so important.

"This year our team raise $6780. We raised over $3400 last year, so its a significant increase. We're excited to be a united front together and bring visibility about the disease. Hopefully we can raise more funds and get more money from the government. I won't give up. I have my faith and my love to give back to the community to help people. That's why I was put on this earth to help people."

You can get involved in Saturday's walk in Jensen Beach or a walk near you.

"Come on out it's a beautiful time at the Indian Riverside Park. The walk is only 2 miles very casual. It's a great time. To help people and get back to the community to those who really need care is a wonderful feeling. "
