12 year old creates Boca Raton chapter of Joshua's Heart Foundation to "Stomp Out Hunger"
BOCA RATON, Fl. (CBS12)-- A 12 year boy working with the non-profit Joshua's Heart Foundation has taken the lead in expanding their mission to Stomp Out World Hunger in Boca Raton.
Joshua’s Heart Foundation was founded by a four and a half year-old boy by the name of Joshua Williams. His little heart conceived a passion for helping those who struggle daily to put food on the table and make ends meet. And so a vision was born to stomp out hunger in poor and underprivileged communities, and to help those with debilitating diseases that hinder their ability to provide for themselves. With one in six Americans facing hunger, there is plenty of work to be done.
South Florida actor/student 12 year Colin Wanless has been dedicated to serving others ever since 2015. He was inspired by Joshua's mission and wanted to get involved.
"I really do feel it’s important to help out the community after all every 1 in 5 kids are hungry in the US today and I'm just very passionate. fed over 500 families we collected items like clothing, hygiene items, foods and books and toys for children.
Colin’s mom says it starts early teaching children that giving back is a fundamental way to build character and develop a great love of blessing others.
"If we want to make this world a stronger, healthier happier and better place we really ought to be helping one another."
12 year old Melina McGahey was inspired to give back to the community and empower other kids to do the same.
"It’s so important to be grateful and to impact our community in any positive way that we can."
Young people on a mission to making big a difference in the community truly helping the children and families who need it most.
"It’s just so sad to see others less fortunate as me or other kids and I believe strongly that they deserve what we have."
JHF is one of few charity organizations allowing volunteer opportunities for young people under the age of 18.
