Broadway performs tributes honoring Prince
Broadway joined in the celebration of Prince's life Thursday night, singing and dancing to some of his most iconic songs.
The artist passed away at his compound in Minnesota Thursday morning.
"The Color Purple" cast, including Jennifer Hudson, belted "Purple Rain" from the stage after their performance.
"I'm not a speaker by any means, but I did not expect to have to speak on tonight. But God has his way," Hudson explained.
"As we all know, on today, we lost a legend... who was a good friend of mine. Prince."

Hudson described a time when Prince invited the cast to an event, and how everyone was able to savor that moment to be in his presence "one last time."
"He said his music will live on, his music would live on, and he would live through his music," she said, asking the crowd to join in and sing with them.
The cast of Hamilton also joined after the curtain call to honor Prince with a dance party to "Let's Go Crazy."
