Facebook post, stolen car may hold key to mother's murder

A day after a mother of 3 was shot in the head by a masked gunman, investigators are looking at two key bits of evidence to help solve her murder.

Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Deputies say Mavika Jenkins, a wife and mother of three, was gunned down by a masked gunman early Thursday morning at her home at 4104 Plumbago Place in unincorporated Lantana.

Deputies say Jenkins was shot in the head inside of her home, just feet from her three children and relatives. While police searched for every bit of physical evidence at the crime scene, they've also turned their attention to one Jenkins' last Facebook posts.

Hours before her murder, Makeva Jenkins posted on Facebook a reflection of sorts, celebrating her life’s success and ability to go from homelessness to becoming a business owner.

“We overcame being homeless in 2013/2014 to reaching my six figure mark in 2015 to now making multi six figures. No matter what the road looked like, I followed my heart and stuck with it growing my business,” Jenkins wrote in what would be one of her final posts before she died.

“I think you’re going to see a lot more to this, perhaps the perp did know the individual,” said Tom Whatley, a retired police detective.

Whatley said at this stage in the investigation, every angle of Jenkins’ life is being scoured, including those she knew in real life and online.

Another point of focus for the investigation is Jenkins' car, which was stolen and then abandoned a short distance from the crime scene.

“One of the biggest parts of this case is that her car was stolen and recovered,” Whatley said. “There’s going to be a lot of information obtained from that car, whether it’s DNA, whether it’s prints.”
