Why don't we use Florida's greatest resource to power traffic lights?
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) —
Anyone who drove around after Hurricane Irma knows firsthand the nightmare the lack of power caused at intersections across the area.
It was a frightening drive that could have been avoided with one simple fix.
CBS12 Investigates traveled across the state and found a company that powers traffic lights with Florida's greatest resource - the sun.
"There's no reason that you can't easily add solar power back-up to any intersection in the U.S. or around the world," said Scott Fitchet with Industrial Traffic Solutions.
So, why isn't the county using this technology?
Our report is getting results.
