The back-to-school experience at a number of schools in Riviera Beach had a lot of energy.

Community leaders put together a 'Welcome Back Party' for students on Monday.

Members from the community, school staff greeted students with high-fives and lots of emotion. Riviera Beach Police were also on hand. The party happened at West Riviera Elementary, Lincoln Elementary and JFK Middle School.

It's all to help kids start the school year with a positive feeling.

“These are their barbers, their beauticians, people from the community so they are excited to see the people from their community actually at the school welcoming them back in," said Ashley Walker, one of the organizers.

Another elementary school in Riviera Beach found itself under the spotlight for another reason. Superintendent Robert Avossa spoke to students at Washington Elementary after the school went from an "F" to a "B."
