CBS 12's Extraordinary People: Palm Beach fitness instructor overcomes physical challenges, inspires others

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. -- You've heard the saying, 'when life gives you lemons...make lemonade.' Rosalind Murray, knows this mantra and many affirmations about overcoming the challenges of life. Wife, mother, professional, volunteer and survivor. Her journey an inspiration.

Rosalind Murray: I was born with a birth defect. The lower part of my leg was missing.

Michele Wright: Seeking treatment at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. 

Rosalind: That's where my leg was amputated and that's where the journey really did start.

She had to be strong away from her family for 3 years when she was just 2 years old.

Rosalind: The journey of living in a home for crippled children. When you're a child with a physical disability you don't realize that everybody has something. And only as an adult do you realize that there are no perfect people in the world.

Michele: With faith, Rosalind tells me she chooses to focus on the good things in life. She and her husband John married for almost 25 years and her son Joshua they adopted 11 years ago.

Rosalind: That started a spiritual journey for us as a family.

Volunteering to feed those in need, traveling and becoming a fitness instructor contributed to her healing.

Rosalind: I started spinning classes and I didn't know if I could do it with one leg. And I excelled at it.

Michele: Given the secret by her friend Martha on "looking so fantastic"...Bikram Yoga became her strength to a healthy mind, body and spirit. Connecting with Karen & many others at the West Palm Beach Bikram yoga studio and also going to the Delray yoga studio helped her through the deaths of her mentor and her mother.

Rosalind: The thing that you get more than anything is that sense of peace.

Michele: Rosalind reminds those who are going through struggles right now to never give up.

Rosalind: So many times in life you want to leave a situation that is uncomfortable. This is a big, wonderful world...and this is a part of it.

Michele: Rosalind says she hopes to inspire others. Walt Disney said "it's kind of fun to do the impossible." Rosalind agrees. She says get out your comfort zone. Don't let your limitation hold you back. Let it excel you further into greatness.

Rosalind: Life is so full of possibilities, and here it is..ten times better than it ever was before.
